How do you feel the day that the doctor looks you in the eyes and tells you that you have Transitional Cell Carcinoma? Well, the first thing that you think is, “What is that?!” Then, once it all sinks in and explanations are conveyed, you realize you just heard the words you had hoped you’d never hear… “You have cancer in your left kidney.”
At first, being optimistic, you think this doesn’t sound too bad; he certainly did not say it was in both of your kidneys, and he didn’t say that it can’t be operated on, and he didn’t say that you only have a few months to live. Everything will be okay, right?
However, when things start to slow down and you begin to think about both the reality and the unknowns of the situation, panic and fear start to rear their ugly heads at you. You begin to question, “What has caused this? Is this the only place that it is surfacing? Is it growing or spreading? How long do I really have to be with my family?”
This is when the peace of God that surpasses all understanding takes over and that still and quiet voice of the Holy Spirit reminds you, “You are a child of God and you are mine, I am your God and personal savior I will never leave you or forsake you.”
This blog exists to help inform the people who love and care about me, BUT my heart’s desire is to use this blog to help anyone out there who does not have the kind of faith through a personal relationship with the living Son of God, Jesus Christ, that I have.
God does love Candy and He loves you just as much.

Good Morning, Candy, This is a wonderful way to be able to look back and see the hand of God as He guides you through this time. Remember, nothing touches you that hasn’t first passed through the hands of Jesus. This has always been such a comfort to me and I pray it will be for you as you take this journey with Him.
You are loved! Never hesitate to call us!

Dear Candy,
You are truly a child of God !! Your belief and
sense of peace shows that God is carrying you in his
arms !! I believe that He has blessed you with a very special gift by surrounding you with a wonderfully supportive husband,a loving family, caring church friends and fabulous doctors. He has placed you exactly where you should be at this moment in your
journey. Dr. Ken Druck made a very powerful, yet simple and beautiful statement on the true meaning of
compassion. He said it is having “your pain in my heart.” Please know that I have your pain in my heart and that I will be praying for you and your family
everyday from this day forward…..forever and ever.
Love and blessings,
Wendy Francy

I also know that he puts wonderful friends of faith and prayer in our lives – who really make a huge difference in our personal battles with cancer. Leo – you were there to help me – whatever I can do just ask – I will be there for both of you !

Hi Candy,
This web site is a great idea. Thanks for being willing to keep us up to date on your thoughts and feelings and how God is working in your life. You know it, but I’m saying it again, we’re praying for you “without ceasing” and trusting God to perform a miracle and bring complete healing to you, and as quickly as possible.
One of my favorite scriptures, and one that Dr. Ed Dobson preached on just last Sunday night here at Thomas Rd. Baptist Church, is Hebrews 13:5,6, “…be content with what you have, because God has said, ‘NEVER will I leave you; NEVER will I forsake you.’ So we say with CONFIDENCE, ‘The Lord is my helper; I WILL NOT BE AFRAID. What can man do to me?’”
Dr. Dobson has had Lou Gerig’s disease for 7 years now. Doctors said he would live 2-5 years. He said whenever he felt depressed, he would say those verses over and over for at least 5 minutes. He said that he had to say them for at least 5 minutes because he didn’t believe them the first time he said them, but after saying them for 5 minutes, he did begin to really believe them. And God brought him out of his depression (for lack of a better word).
Enough for today. I love you, Candy. Jane

You are always kind, considerate and full of life (you get that from Nana) and I believe that you will be well again soon and back to climbing up on stepladders to clean in no time!! Dear Candy & Leo,
You are both in my thoughts and prayers this morning especially.
love, bill & vickie eickhoff
Candy,
It has been obvious to both of us since we first met you and Leo that you guys are full of the Love of God! This battle has not created a love for God within you…it merely allowed it to shine through you like never before. We love you and are praying often for you! It took a fiery furnace for Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego to experience the reality of our God, and I recall that when my life was most fragile, God’s presence and love became most real. As I look back, I wouldn’t change a thing! Your whole CF family loves you dearly and we are all lifting up prayers on your behalf! We all miss you! Your Coach and your team needs you back out on the field. You are dearly loved by all of us!
Jon & Cat Bonar
Our prayers are with you always and especially during th is time. Thank you for your testimony to us all – you are blessed beyond measure with such loving family and friends and most of all our heavenly Father. The verse that helped me tremendously during my recent battle with BC: Jer 29:11.

GOD BLESS YOU. YOU AND YOUR FAMILY ARE IN MY THOUGHTS AND PRAYERS. YOUR FAITH IN OUR HEAVENLY FATHER AND THE COURAGE YOU HAVE IS AN ENCOURAGEMENT TO ALL OF US. I PRAISE OUR LORD FOR HIS LOVE AND FOR YOU.
REBECCA
Dearest Candy,
Your site and postings are a tremendous testimony to the love, hope, grace, and mercy that Jesus Christ brings to our lives each new day. I praise him for directing you and Leo to post these words of encouragement and walk of faith for all to read and to lead people closer in their walk with the Lord. I recently have been faced with the possibility of breast cancer and I was lead to your site by reaching out to someone at the church. In our times of hardship we need to reach out, and as Tom said “team up for impact”. You and your family are in my prayers. Proverbs 3:5-6
“There is no pain Jesus can’t feel
No hurt he can not heal
All things work according to his perfect will
No matter what you’re going through
Remember God is using you
For the battle is not yours
Its the Lords.”
Amen… thank you Jesus
Hey girl,
It’s Doug. Sunday morning before we head off for a long day at church. We have a special day; no Sunday School, just 2 worship services (9 and 11). I walk around doing what I always do: not much. We also have a big Sunday night service as well.
The house here is looking much better.
Now to you: We think of you and pray for you constantly. Both of us desperately miss seeing you; yes even as you look today.
We can only imagine what it was like for Leo to fall asleep on the beach. It in the upper 30’s here this morning.
Well, we will continue to praise God for your victories, pray for many more and pray for the encouragement and healing from the Holy Spirit.
Love you tons, Doug and Jane
Love you guys today; glad I can help you with this site. I know God is using it mightily as a testimony of His goodness, provision and glory being displayed through your lives.

May God continue to give you peace, joy and strength for the journey. Jeff and I pray for this daily. Love you.

WOW! What a faithful and loving God! How blessed we have been reading the blog and gleaning your thoughts from God each day. What a Journey! The Journey isn’t over yet, but the road is getting a bit easier to walk on. Especially in your own bed!
You have blessed so may. Encouraged so many from the pains that you are both living through. Your sense of humor in the middle of such trauma is again a trophy of God’s Grace.

Rhonda
Jeremiah 29:11
We both spoke to Leo and it sounds like you are over the worst of it. I hope that you did not have a bladder infection. Sounds like you got C. diff. It seems everyone I know has gotten this. My sisters husband has renal cell carcinoma and is up and on the mend. That is a miracle in itself–so we know that you have one waiting for you. It was so good to hear that Char is up and that your good friend Faye has been there constantly. It is so wonderful to have a friend like that which you both have developed. May God continue to heal your body each and every day as you progress thru the post surgical stages. Sounds like your surgical wound was clean and that is terrific. Love you lots and I am glad that you are now able to water the dog in the customary way! We take so much forgranted!
love and blessings

Hey Candy,
I just wanted to let you know we miss you around here. I read your update today and was glad to hear that your white cell count is up. Know you are loved and thought of here at the accounting offices of CF.

Lord Jesus,
We ask of you only what your Word shares and that which was done for each of us that day on Calvary. You took within yourself our infirmities and by your wounds you have given us healing and new life. Lord, we want to thank you for what you are doing in Candy right now. I pray Lord that she be strengthened with the power of your grace and the power of you might. Thank you for hearing us Lord Jesus.
In the Name of Jesus,
Amen
Happy Valentine’s Day Candy!
Thinking of you today and hoping that you remember our love and though we can not give you a hug, we sure wish we could! May God bless you and keep you and make His face shine upon you this day. We continue to pray for you and look forward to your complete recovery!
Love,
Sena
Candy,
I don’t check your blog often but when I do it is always so encouraging. I know God is using you to increase the faith of so many people. Mine included.
Also, I wanted to encourage you about giving yourself shots. I just completed two rounds of fertility treatments which means giving myself shots every night for a couple of weeks. All of them in my stomach, the last one in my leg. The first time is the hardest. One word of advice – make sure you are at a right angle to your skin. I learned the hard way when the needle pricked me and then bounced off. After all that, unfortunately, we are not pregnant.
I loved your Post Office story. I can really picture it.
Dear Abdella’s,
I just learned from Peggy about Erin’s surgery Tues. We are praying for the surgeon and all the surrounding teams to be guided by our Lord. We are so sorry you have been through so much. We see your faithfulness and you are such an inspiration to us. We love you all!!
